She has been called "Infectious" by the New York Times, "Pop Ecstasy" by Spin Magazine, and is gaining international attention playing her "killer, killer, killer, killer beats." Her name is Kate Nash, and at only twenty years old, she's been around the world and to the top of the UK pop charts with her second album and tour on the horizon. She's recently hit radio waves here in the U.S., and is growing popularity by the day with her video for her smash single 'Foundations,' which was recently featured on MTV and VH1.

Kate Nash was born in Dublin, Ireland and raised in the Northern London suburb, Harrow, which is a typical middle-class working neighborhood. She began playing the piano at a very young age, and even pursued acting for a short while until a foot injury. She has been writing her own music since age thirteen. "I used to tape everything on one of those ancient tape players where you had to push play and record at the same time," Nash said in a recent interview. Before her big break, Nash gained a cult following after uploading many of her tunes onto Myspace, which she still updates regularly.

Less than a year ago, Nash released her first CD "Caroline's a Victim" along with a song of the same name about her good friend, Caroline. The initial thousand copies literally sold out overnight, as she already had a huge fan base. She subsequently scored a record deal with the UK's 'Fiction Records,' and compiled more of her favorite tunes onto her second CD, "Made of Bricks," which was released by Geffen records last month. On that CD, which would be a wonderful addition to your collection, there are fun songs like 'Pumpkin Soup' and 'Mouthwash;' but 'Skeleton Song' will capture you and make you remember why it's still awesome to listen to music. Her unbelievable hit song 'Foundations' climbed straight to the number two spot on the UK's 'Top Charts' and stayed there for five weeks over the summer. Recently, the song and it's music video were featured on MTV's TRL and VH1's Top 20 countdowns, which you can vote for online and listen to sound clips.

Her voice has been compared to Lily Allen with a funky club beat mashed up with the beautiful piano accompaniment of Tori Amos. She has the edge of Goldfrapp, another UK sensation, and certainly has the bold attitude of Amy Winehouse, as a few of her songs are marked by their raging, harsh titles and the 'take no prisoners' vibe that she evokes so well. This overnight success story is certainly a force to be reckoned with and that's why I have voted for Kate Nash as February's 'You Outta Know' new artist.
